Emiliania huxleyi

Three-dimensional realisation of the phytoplankton Emiliania huxleyi type A, a calcareous alga, based on scanning electron microscope photos. Since only limited photographic and documentation material could be found, some details are freely interpreted.

Size comparison:

The diameter of Emiliania huxleyi is about 6 µm, a human hair about 60 – 80 µm.
